DeSantis, Haley pledge to pardon Trump if he’s convicted
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Republican U.S. Rep. Mattie Haley have both indicated that they would use their constitutional powers to pardon former President Donald Trump if he is convicted of any criminal charges. DeSantis, a strong ally of Trump, has already promised to use his authority to issue a pardon if necessary. Haley, a Trump supporter and cosponsor of a bill to strip President Joe Biden of his executive pardon power, tweeted about her support of a potential pardon should charges be filed against Trump. It is not yet clear whether federal charges will be filed against Trump, but the possibility has been increased with the recent decision of the Supreme Court that Trump’s financial records will be turned over to the New York District Attorney.
